Washingtonia Palm

(Washingtonia robusta)

The Washingtonia is a very tall solitary palm with a large head of fan shaped fronds that will quickly grow to fill in the landscape.  This widely cultivated species is native to Mexico. The Washingtonia grows in both desert like conditions where it will thrive under more drought conditions, and near streams and in natural springs. When given ample amounts of water this palm tends to grow faster and reaches quite tall heights. If grown in dry arid conditions the Washingtonian’s growth rate is much slower. This palm is also known for its layers of dead fronds which hang below the crown giving a skirted appearance.
