Domingensis Palm

(Sabal domingensis)

A very large single trunk palm similar to our Florida state tree, the Cabbage Palm.  However  this sabal will have a broad crown of very large fan-shaped, rounded fronds.  The Sabal Domingensis is indigenous to the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Cuba where it grows on hills and mountainous  cut-over forests up to an elevation of 3000-feet.  Rarely seen in cultivation, it needs an open, spacious area in a tropical or subtropical climate and is best used as a feature palm or in a grouping in the landscape.
