Foxtail Palm

(Wodyetia bifurcate)

The Foxtail Palm is a fast growing palm that has become very popular in the past few years. It originally was discovered in Australia and has only been in cultivation in the United States for the past 20 years. Because of its very full fronds, medium stature, and easy care it is a good choice for almost any landscape. This palm has been proven to adapt well in dryer sandy soil conditions, thus being more drought tolerant than many other tropical palms. Solitary in nature, with columnar, light gray trunks, that carry darker rings, we are quickly seeing this palm planted as a multiple trunk specimen. The fronds are very unique as they are dark green leaflets growing from different angles around the rachis allowing a visual effect of the frond being lusher, full and round compared to most fronds as being flat.
