Christmas Palm

(Adonidia merrillii)

Due to its neat formal appearance this is probably the most popular palm for residential yards. Though solitary by nature it is most commonly used in doubles and triples. The showy fruit display coincides with Christmas time giving it the common name of Christmas palm. The light to dark gray trunks appear to be stout and elegantly slender with noticeable ringed etchings. The fronds measure 6-8 feet long with a decidedly arching rachis and a relatively short petiole which creates a V- shaped frond. The Christmas Palm is commonly well liked because of its self-cleaning characteristic of dropping older fronds.
