Cardboard Palm

(Zamia fufuracea)

This plant has a unique texture, stiff almost oval arching leaflets arranged on a center stem like a fern. It can be used as either a large ground cover or an accent plant, because of its smaller stature. This plant is historically an ancient species dating back to prehistoric times as traced through fossils, and is part of the cycad species.  The cardboard palm will grow with ample spread, so proper spacing is a must. During its reproduction phase, the cardboard bears a cone shape seed pod that opens with dark red seeds; very ornamental.
