Cabbage Palm

(Sabal palmetto)

As a symbol of Florida’s beautiful coasts and native landscapes, the Cabbage Palm is Florida’s official state tree. Cabbage Palm or Sabal can be found in several Florida ecosystems including upland hardwoods, flatwoods, coastal regions and tropical hammocks. Because it tolerates high water tables, it can also grow well in swamps, wet prairie, and marshes. It may occur as a single palm or seen in groves of palms. The Cabbage Palm is most recently used as a stable palm in both residential and commercial landscapes.
